Since its establishment in 1995, NGOMDC has been actively engaged in designing, implementing, and supporting a wide range of development programs across Sri Lanka. With over two decades of experience, we have partnered with both local and international organizations to deliver donor-funded initiatives that strengthen the capacities of NGOs, empower communities, and promote sustainable development. Our programs span multiple sectors—including governance, social development, agriculture, environment, and business—ensuring that interventions are holistic, evidence-based, and aligned with the specific needs of the communities we serve. Through participatory approaches, rigorous planning, and strategic collaboration, NGOMDC ensures that every program creates measurable impact and drives meaningful change.

NGOMDC has partnered with renowned international and local organizations to implement a variety of development programs that strengthen NGO capacities and benefit communities across Sri Lanka. These projects combine training, research, advocacy, and community mobilization, ensuring sustainable outcomes and measurable impact. Below are some of our key featured programs:
1. UNDP Collaboration
In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), NGOMDC has implemented capacity-building initiatives focused on good governance, participatory development, and institutional strengthening. These programs provided NGOs and community organizations with the tools to enhance operational efficiency, strategic planning, and accountability, while also fostering collaboration between civil society and local government institutions to promote sustainable development practices.
2. Oxfam Programs
Through collaboration with Oxfam, NGOMDC has conducted extensive training and empowerment programs targeting grassroots communities, youth, and women. These initiatives focused on social mobilization, community development, and livelihood enhancement, enabling participants to actively engage in decision-making, build local capacities, and improve socio-economic outcomes in their regions.
3. European Union-Funded Trainings
NGOMDC has delivered EU-supported training programs across multiple districts, emphasizing NGO management, strategic development, and governance best practices. These programs were designed to enhance the institutional effectiveness of local organizations, promote compliance with international development standards, and strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships that contribute to long-term community impact.
4. SLCDF Participatory Integrated District Development Programme (PIDDP)
Under the SLCDF Participatory Integrated District Development Programme, NGOMDC has conducted district-level capacity-building interventions in 17 districts, focusing on participatory planning, project management, and community engagement. These programs helped NGOs and local organizations effectively address local needs, coordinate resources, and implement development initiatives that are inclusive, sustainable, and results-oriented.

The following case studies highlight real-life examples of transformation, innovation, and empowerment, demonstrating how NGOMDC’s programs translate into measurable change.
Youth Leadership Development in Hambantota
Through targeted youth development and leadership programs, young participants in Hambantota gained skills in community mobilization, project management, and advocacy. One participant noted:
"The training gave me the confidence and knowledge to organize community initiatives and lead positive change in my village."
The program resulted in several youth-led community projects, improving local services and increasing civic participation.
Women Empowerment in Plantation Sector
NGOMDC’s women-focused training programs in plantation communities provided skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and social advocacy. A beneficiary shared:

This initiative helped hundreds of women achieve economic independence, leadership confidence, and stronger community engagement.
Participatory District Development in Ratnapura
Under the SLCDF PIDDP, local NGOs in Ratnapura enhanced their organizational and project management capacities, allowing for better coordination and effective service delivery. A project manager commented:
"The support from NGOMDC transformed how we plan and implement our programs, making our interventions more impactful and community-focused."
The program strengthened local governance, NGO collaboration, and community participation, setting a model for other districts.
